THE HAVEL WAS DONE SOLO, DO YOU ENJOY COMPETITION AND PUSHING YOURSELF?
I had already traveled for a triathlon earlier in the year, so I decided to organize my own race close to home and run it (mostly) solo. It was special, but I’m looking forward to participating in an official event next time. I don’t care much about competing against others. I want to be good at the things I choose to spend my time doing. My definition of “good” changes as I improve.

WHAT DO YOU LISTEN TO DURING RACES AND WORKOUTS, OR DON’T YOU?
I don’t most of the time. Running outdoors is a rare opportunity to disconnect from any sort of media. It can be stimulating to let your mind wander or to pay attention to your surroundings, which are constantly changing as you run through different places. I also think this has made me a better runner. Without distractions, I’m able to feel my pace and perceived effort much more accurately. I’m tuned into the run. That said, if it’s one of those days where I’m really not feeling up for it, I’ll listen to music or a podcast to cure the boredom.
